Sounds like a f*** waste of bandwidth to me. I'm so fantastically thrilled that I will now be able to see obnoxious banners and flashing crap on my phone, too.
Oh please, can we have spyware for mobile phones, too? -n8 |

There is many web apps that use flash. It is not only for advertising. Many games use flash, video and audio players, upload forms etc.
What the browser needs is a function like the addon for firefox called no-script. You only allow the flash programs you want to run. This will conserve cpu power while rendering the page. Last edited by fain; 06/22/2009 at 03:25 PM. |

While flash has enabled a new generation of crappy ads, I agree with many others here that I'd like Hulu, etc.
One really big thing that people are forgetting is that with webOS borrowing from so many web-based programming languages, it COULD be possible for flash-based standalone applications on the phone. That means a) a number of existing applications that could be ported, and b) another available pool of programmers who would be ready to go to town on this device.

The only thing better than Flash support would be to also support something like Flashblock, the Firefox extension that blocks Flash content unless you click on it. (You can also whitelist sites.) That way you choose which distracting items to spend bandwidth on, but can still see videos, etc.

If it's a business phone flash might be a must soon, most of the major BI vendors are all porting their apps to flash. Panorama, Cognos, SystemBuilders, etc, they all have parts of their apps converted now. But yeah i agree with all the banners and crap you get with normal browsing it kind of sucks, sure you can disable flash on the phone if you want so shouldn't be a biggie for those that don't want it.

I am sure this is something in the Flash mobile spec since it would eat battery on every platform.
