Default AmpachPre

AmpachPre

Have you ever been somewhere and had a tune in your head that you just had to hear but it was on your home pc?

AmpachPre is the worlds first front end for webOS to the great Web-based Audio file manager / web Media Server Ampache.

Just setup a web server, install Ampache, enter your account info into AmpachPre and login.
Search for artists, albums or songs.

With AmpachPre you have your entire music library at your fingertips.

some features include:
  • last fm scrobbling Now native to AmpachPre!
  • Create custom play lists
  • Download any mp3 from your collection
  • Download any mp3 from web
  • Save custom playlists for later
  • Search your entire music library
  • Bookmark your favorite artists or albums for fast on the go listening
  • Bluetooth control support
  • Headphone control support
  • Auto transcode flac, ogg and many other to mp3 on the fly via ampache
  • Albums of the Moment

INSTALLATION:
1. Install a LAMP, WAMP or MAMP server.
  • I made a How-to for vista32bit users. It is not pretty but its located here.
  • Ubuntu/Debian visit here
  • mac users check here
Basically you need the apache web server with php and mySQL.
for simplicity install it to C:/xampp

2. Grab a copy of Ampache 3.5.1.
(This app will NOT work with previous versions.)
You can find Installation instructions for Ampache here.
Open your web browser and type
http://localhost/ampache
This will start the configuration of ampache.
3. Enable the API by adding a access list via the instructions here. or
a. Extract the ampache archive to C:/xampp/htdocs/ampache
b. Start the web server if not already started.
c. Start your internet browser and type this into the address bar.
http://localhost/ampache
You should now be presented with ampache's configuration screen.
d. Create a database with the root username and password you created in xampp's installation.
e. Create a username and password for ampache.
f. When prompted to download ampache.php.cfg, save it in to C://xampp/htdocs/ampache/config
g. Now you can log in to ampache as the username you created in ampaches setup. Not the database user. the administrator user.
h. goto the little icon that looks like a pc in the left corner, click on add acl Name it what ever you want.
NAME : AmpachPre
LEVEL: all
USER: all
TYPE: RPC
REMOTE KEY: leave blank
START: 0.0.0.0
END: 255.255.255.255
4. Enter a account you made in the accounts section on AmpachPre, then click save.

How-to back up your AmpachPre database:

1. Before deleting AmpachPre, plug in your phone to a pc usb port and hit "Usb Drive". Or you can use sftp/ssh what ever you please.
2. Navigate to ".app-storage/file_.var.usr.palm.applications.net.nucleardecay.ampachpre_0"
3. There should be a file in there named "00000000000000xx.db" where xx can be any two hexidecimal digits.
4. Copy this file to a safe place say your Desktop.
5. Now you can eject/unmount your phone and delete AmpachPre by Orange+Tap.
6. Reinstall Ampachpre and wait for the account screen to come up.
7. Put your phone back into usb mode and navigate to ".app-storage/file_.var.usr.palm.applications.net.nucleardecay.ampachpre_0" again.
8. Note the name of the new "00000000000000xx.db" file in that directory, xx should be increased by 1.
9. Rename the file on your desktop to that of the new file then copy the old one into ".app-storage/file_.var.usr.palm.applications.net.nucleardecay.ampachpre_0"
over writing the new smaller file.
10. restart AmpachPre and your data base should be there.

OTHER STUFF:
TODO: Playlists, this is a much needed feature. done 1.5
Support for multiple accounts. done in v1.0.1
TODO: Video support. /*mp4 videos will not show up in ampaches api search.*/
TODO: SSL support.
TODO: clean up he interface /*its better now*/
TODO: add a save custom play list feature/*done in 1.8.0
TODO: complete the streaming scene.

Known Issues:
1. When a artist comes up with a album name that has more than one artist with the same album name. All songs from all the artists are listed instead of just the songs by the artist searched. fixed in 1.6.1
2. Videos do not play as i couldnt get mp4's to show up in the api filter.
3. Audio stops when leaving the streaming scene. By design for now, I plan on changing this.
4. There is no notification on the song streaming. You just have to trust its downloading. You should get a error if there is a error though.//added a progress bar till I get the progress slider working.
4. When downloading from ampache on SSL the download manager hangs when trying to download the album art. For now I just made a account specifically for downloading without ssl.

  • set a 2 second pause between skips so the server has less chance of getting overloaded with connections from multiple skips.
  • The playmode and play command menu is now disabled between all track switches.

    single click plays/pauses
double click skips to next song

1.7.0
  • New Download manager added!
  • Now you can download a entire playlist to the pre and listen while your roaming
  • Full downloaded filemanager and playlist editor.
    Create multiple download playlists
Delete files that that you have downloaded.
You can also re-arange the downloaded files playlist.
or delete the play list and leave the files on the pre.
custom download folder under /media/internal/ (look in the account settings)
songs download in to sub folders under /artist/album/tracknum-songTitle.mp3 format
album art is in the same folder.
  • Enter a custom url to a mp3 from a site such as beemp3.com for your downloading pleasures
  • Pre-buffering is in! (no pun intended)
It's not "true" pre-buffering, but it works. What I mean by not true pre buffering is. If you have a short song
and a long song after the short one. the long one will probably need to buffer but the next one should be buffered
and ready to go. unless you skip it of course.
note: pre-buffering is not working in random mode yet.
  • Now, in the account editor, you will now be able to edit your account when selected instead of re-entering everything.
  • Changed the icon to a 3d style.(you'll have to delete and reinstall to refresh the Icon I believe)

  • Changed the login algorithm to use palms api in stead of javascripts date method, no user visible changes but much cleaner now.

  • removed webStreamer option. No real use for it since you can download songs now.
  • enter now submits a search. text property change will not any more.
  • A complete overhaul of the account system. It now allows as many accounts as you need.
  • The account at the top of the list is the default. just drag another account to the top to make it the default
  • swipe to delete accounts. Tap the icon to edit that account.
IMPORTANT!!! delete all your old ampachpre accounts before upgrading to 1.7.6. or they will be left in your memory.
If you delete ampachpre you will lose the database that holds your downloaded music playlist.
the mp3z will still be on your phone but just not available with in ampachpre.
  • Downloaded songs can now be added to custom playlist.
  • You can now edit a downloaded songs info.

1.7.7 Thursday, November 05 2009
  • Added a toggle switch for "Cache Next Song" in the account settings.
by default "Cache Next Song" is on. If you want it turned off, and you already made the account prior to the update
you will need to visit the account settings turn "Cache Next Song" ON and back OFF, then save.
  • changed the style on bookmarks list and account info list.

    2. by using the icon to the right of the title.
  • added a spinner after adding a album or artist to the custom playlist for ajax status.

1.7.9 Wednesday, December 02 2009
  • Added search buttons to the url download scene.
now you can search beemp3 for artist, album or song directly from AmpachPre
after you enter the album and artist search google images for a album art image.
  • A lot of work went into random play. The over all random play experience should be better now.
  • Random play should not repeat any songs now.
  • Added skip ahead 10 secs and skip back 10 sec commands

IMPORTANT!
before upgrading to 1.8... If you have any downloads you would like to keep listed in ampachpre,
back up your database. (how to above) Then delete ampachpre and install 1.8.
If you are not worried about keeping the downloads listed in ampachpre just go ahead and delete ampachpre.
All downloaded files will be left on your usb partition.
  • Save play list feature added
the play list save scene acts mostly like the downloads scene.
make a play list and click the multiple list icon to create a new playlist container to save your playlist.
  • bookmark songs added.
  • new ampachpre theme now with more icons.
  • fixed downloads hanging on art file if account type is https://
  • In order to get saved playlists to work I had to re-design the account system.
there is now a few new fields
streaming port: this is the http:// port you use if you are using ssl and it is not port 80 if it is port 80 just leave it blank
connection port: same as above but for all encrypted transactions.
the address field is now just the domain name
the directory field is for the path ampache resides in.
  • downloads now save into a directory of the playlist name. /media/internal/yourPersonalPath/playlistName/artist/album/song.mp3
  • a notification presents the song and artist that is now playing if the app is minimized or the phone is asleep.
  • there is a option to turn notifications off as well.
  • re-designed Albums of the moment.
now a palm list and I have increased performance by like 500% (i dont really know the increased performance but its way better)

  • added a no response dialog.
  • optimized a few things in the login algorithm
  • better error checking in account creation.
  • make a playlist and switch accounts then try to download that playlist it will work now.
  • added notification on completed "add to playlist".
  • redesigned settings manager.
  • changed a few styles on search scene and now playing

1.8.6 Friday, January 22 2010
  • It is strongly recommended you delete and remake your accounts just keep every thing clean, at least re-save your account to keep variables from being null!
if you have problems just remake the account.

I am very sorry but I found a bug that needs to be fixed, and for that to be done, you will need to make any saved playlists again.
The bug was when you create a playlist with the same name as a downloaded playlist name Ampachpre would fill that playlist with your downloaded playlist.
causing you to not be able to delete the saved playlist without deleting the database that held the downloaded playlist.
this is kind of ironic because i just spent about a hr. on making a big playlist tonight.
the good news is downloads will not be affected

  • added a wifi check if you are on wifi it will auto log you into the account you specify as default wifi.
  • added a ssid field; you need to specify your home ssid incase you are on a wifi somewhere other than the place your server is at.
this should not affect your account if you choose not to use this option.
  • new auto account change feature. If you in any scene and you turn on wifi or vice versa, or if you just got out of the range of your router or if your wan ip has changed.
AmpachPre will now auto login to either your default wifi or evdo account. (still experimental while streaming.)
  • last fm scrobbling now native!. You need to disable scrobbling in Ampache if you want to use this feature. If you dont, just leave the account info blank.
if you choose to use this you will be able to turn scrobbling Off/On by default or toggle it from the app menu on the stream scene.
  • added ad all to playlist on a downloaded playlist.
  • if you have a song that has been downloaded from a url and there is no time in the playlist. It will be added the first time you play it from your downloads playlist.
this fixes a bug that caused the playlist scene from not displaying total playlist time when these files where added to the playlist.
  • there has been a ping timer to keep the API Session alive added that is customizable. Still working on the stream session.
  • added a search time out if the search takes longer than 15 seconds the search will be cancelled.
  • added the ability to edit playlist song info for scrobbling songs with bad tags and for those like me who just do not have time to go through their entire mp3 collection looking for bad tags.
(I strongly recommend not editing either the image url nor the song url! I was going to disable these but you could enter a full path to a local mp3 and image file if you know the values. Remote mp3z are unsupported right now.)
  • added a download saved playlist function in case you need to cache a saved playlist quick.
  • few style changes and probably some other things I forgot to log while doing them

    enjoy...

1.8.7 Saturday, January 23 2010
  • fixed a problem with the last.fm login system.
  • now when you toggle scrobbling on while listening it will send the now playing song.

1.8.8 Sunday, January 24 2010
  • fixed a few bugs with the autologin feature.
  • fixed a problem with the toggle scrobble function.
  • the scrobble function will now cache listened songs while there is no internet connection and scrobble them the next time there is a internet connection.
  • the stream scene will now cache the next songs album art for faster display.

Don't take this as a tard question but i'm assuming computer is up and running for this to function much how orb/tversity works. Your computer streams to the server which your phone then catches? Just in case people aren't understanding the concept, hopefully i'm making it a bit clearer for some

It is sort of like orb yes. Except with ampache, there is no middle man. Your phone logs directly into your server/pc at home.

Ampache is also cross platform as where orb is windows only.

Not sure about tversity I don't have any experience with it.

Thanks Doug
The instructions are already stepped out on Ampaches website.

For windows instructions:
install:windows [Ampache :: Wiki]

Other Os's here
install [Ampache :: Wiki]
As far as Ubuntu's current stable release jaunty. Do not use the repo version. it is 3.4 and will not work.

As for mac some one on this thread got it working with MAMP.

Ampache's Documentation is located here:
start [Ampache :: Wiki]

This is awesome, and I've been using ampache for a while (Linux server) yet I'm unable to 'log-in' on AmpachPre. It's just spinning and spinning...

Tried on wifi using 192.168.1.2/ampache and then tried over EVDO using my dydns.hostname/ampache. Same results, just spinning at login. All the other machines in the house are able to log-in... So, I doubt it's the log-in creditably.

Ideas? I've been waiting for-ever for this. Thanks! Just gotta get it to work :-)

EDIT: Missed step 3, working on setting up acl/api now... I imagine that's the issue.
EDIT 2: Updated acl, and config per tutorial and still no log-in.
EDIT 3: Added Log file

Code:
2009-08-23 12:25:09 { } ( API ) - Login Attempt, IP:192.168.1.130 Time:2147483647 User:1 Auth:0da73a744cdbfe1120776c6234f620ae9d370abcf1d392f78de1a0efbcc4327

GREAT App! Thank you for a slick way to get around space limitations for music. I'm curious as to how you'll handle the playlist function. Search for songs with an "Add to Playlist" button in the search results? A "Create Playlist" button from the launch screen?

Very highly desired since neither ampache nor slimserver work with the streaming media app. Unfortunately, I can't log in either. I do have API working as I use Amarok and Ampache together on multiple computers. WIFI or EVDO don't matter:

Code:
2009-08-23 10:26:26 [ampache] (API) -> Login Attempt, IP:72.56.124.146 Time:2147483647 User:wotan(2) Auth:f46431598389547eb66abf0b7ce963fecc1b041c5aa829cfe812c1e138f81980
2009-08-23 10:26:26 [ampache] (API) -> Login Failed, unable to match passphrase

Tried on wifi using 192.168.1.2/ampache and then tried over EVDO using my dydns.hostname/ampache. Same results, just spinning at login. All the other machines in the house are able to log-in... So, I doubt it's the log-in creditably.

Ideas? I've been waiting for-ever for this. Thanks! Just gotta get it to work :-)

EDIT: Missed step 3, working on setting up acl/api now... I imagine that's the issue.
EDIT 2: Updated acl, and config per tutorial and still no log-in.

Code:

2009-08-23 10:26:26 [ampache] (API) -> Login Failed, unable to match passphrase
What version of Ampache are you guys using? The login scheme has been changed as of 3.5. I have tested the login system with version 3.5 and version 3.5.1.
3.4.x and earlier will not work.

edit: (Never mind you have this or you wouldnt have gotten any log file :P)If your on 3.5 check your account info make sure you enter only the domain/IP. Not the protocol (http://)

login error checking is on my list of TODO's as well.

Ya I was thinking either a add to playlist button in each row next to the song title or select the song it will highlight the row then a command menu will popup and you can either hit play or add to play list.

Ya karmic will have it in the repo but its not hard to install. just get and extract the package from here
Ampache :: Developer Blog » 3.5.1 Released

In ubuntu: copy the extracted folder to /var/www/ampache-3.5.1

then point your browser to http://domain.com/ampache-3.5.1 to start the install.

I would create a new database for the new version of ampache. You can use the same one but I am not sure of any problems that might occur with the old database.

You will also need to generate the config file and put it in
/vaw/www/ampache-3.5.1/config
Its all in the install script though.

This is probably not the most secure way of doing this. I just set it up quickly to get it working So I could work on the app.

Ya ampache works on mac with mamp. Though they charge for free software. MAMP is just a package that installs apache with php and mysql for you.

If you can get apache with php and mySQL configured on mac then you should be set. I do not have much experience with mac but a guy in this "Anyone ever try Ampache?" thread got ampache to work on macOS with MAMP.

Awesome. With Pandora, the new Shoutcast app, and now this, all of my audio needs are covered for the Pre.

Not to mention I said I was using it with Amarok.

Any thoughts? I have tried it with or without the protocol, over EVDO using hostname and WIFI with IP address, and as myself or as the admin user. Same behaviour.
