Default Are JVM/Operamini working in classic ?

Anyone has tried ?

The webos browser seems nice but Operamini is simply ten years ahead, a way to use it on the PRE would be very nice.

That's a great question! I'm using OperaMini on the Instinct and it's lightening fast with the ability to download video @ 2MG per minute!
Once I get my Pre I hope it's browser will be as good.

I have to wait the gsm version then almost certainly I will get a PRE.

But I'm almost shure that the PRE's browser has no chance to beat operamini, simply because the PRE's browser is almost on pair with safari GS , and OM wins hands down if compared to the latter: It's ten time faster, it's easier to use, works on almost any phone (even on a ten years old one), it's still quick even on a slow gprs connection and the operalink feature is simply awesome.

I use another browser just for the few pages that OM can't manage (flash only sites, and pages with a countdown like rapidshare/megaupload ones).

So I hope in a native JVM or at least in a JVM working in classic.

Well hopefully someone with a Pre will pop up on this thread and provide an answer. Just go to the OperaMini site and see if the Pre is recognized. Having the choice of two browsers would be cool.

@ The Solutor ~ oh shucks, I just reread your post. Do you currently have the Pre? or are you waiting for the GSM version?

I live in Italy, no CDMA here (as in most part of the world), so I must have to wait the GSM version.

Opera Mini is quite different in that it doesn't actually render web pages on your phone. It renders them on a server, and then essentially downloads images to your phone of the webpage, which you can then interact with.

When you see it "downloading video" at 2 MB/s, it's acutally downloading the video to the server at that rate, then transcoding it to stream to your browser at a much slower rate.

What Webkit on the phone does is completely different, in that it actually renders the page on the phone.

Comparing the two is apples/oranges. I, personally, prefer having the whole website actually available on the phone, but to each their own.

That description is more well suited to describe skyfire, but the concept is very similar.

operamini does not stream video at all.

I'm perfectly aware that the PRE's browser is a true browser and operamini isn't

I can't agree, my point of view is that i need the better way to browse the internet, no matter if a page is rendered locally or on a server. What matters is if it works and how it works. And opermini works better (by far better) than a traditional browser in 95% of the situations.

On the remaining 5% I just use another browser, and I just would like to do the same on a PRE.

Seems silly to me running another web browser inside an emulator on the phone. If its that important to have Opera Mini then get a phone it runs on instead. Its going to be quite a bit more enjoyable. Any benefit you get from running it would be offset by having to run it on the classic emulator and not a nice fullscreen browser integrated with everything other applications and everything.

I got it working yesterday. Opera crashes kind of often, and the resolution is crap, but it runs.

At the moment I have an Xperia, an imate 8502, and a K850, it isn't really a problem for me having a phone capable of running operamini. But I like the pre form factor and other features, so may I hope to have both a a good phone, with a good OS AND the best browser, w/o ignite any sarcasm ?

Remember that operamini is damn light is 100K (or 60K in the light version) in size and runs even on a very very old phone, so I think that, even in emulated environment, the performance aren't going to be significantly affected.

Maybe this is not due to the classic application itself, but to the crap palmos JVM.

The treo 650 was the only phone where i saw an operamini crash.

But I remember that some tweaking on the JVM settings was helping a lot.

Anyway thanks a lot again.
