Default Export all "Palm Profile" contacts?

I'm thinking ahead to the future, and am wondering if anyone has found a way to do this.

I want a way to export the Palm Profile contacts (IE, not Google contacts, but the ones associated with Palm) to a file. In any way possible.

One thing I consider critical is being able to back up my contacts. I don't want to have to always have a Pre to be able to retrieve them. The Treo made it easy; just Hotsync with Missing Sync on the Mac and there they are in Address Book. But with the way things were synced to the Pre, it appears to be a one way thing.

Any help here? Thanks in advance.

I did the one way sync from Outlook to my Palm Profile. Then I changed the setting for my default Contacts (when I add new ones from the phone) To be saved to my exchange server. Or you can have them backed up via google where you could also extract them. So now I have all my contacts saved on Google, Palm Profile, and my exchange server. But when I add new numbers they go to my exchange server.

If you have contacts in both Palm Profile and Google, will they duplicate?

I figure I can just export my contacts into google, then sync, but I'm worried about duplicate contacts...

Yes but what if you are using Outlook locally and not from an exchange server.

I want to use my Outlook for Contact and Calender functions.

After reading, it does not look like it's possible to sync the two any longer if I get a Pre.

Thanks.

Rob

PS I had an appointment to pick one up tomorrow (Wed).

Has anyone been able to figure out how to do what the OP asked? I'd also like to be able to pull data (contacts, calendar, etc) from the palm profile down to my computer at some point. Thx.

I think the answers to the question here are not as simple as "yes, you can do this" or "no, you can't".

First, there is no way I know of to do this out of the box, with no add-ons. However, Chapura software has a package that will synchronize to standalone Outlook. They are working on a package that will synchronize to Palm's Windows based PIM as well.

However, neither of those, nor synchronizing with Google (or other cloud-based contact lists) is really backing up the database. It's synchronizing it, and may do what the OP intended generally speaking.

However, there is a database that contains the contact information (as well as other stored information on the Pre). Information about that, and how to access the data can be found on the developer's WIKI.

This would be the proper way to export the information that is contained on the Pre. Obviously, it would (at this point) take some work, but it could be done.
